🐾 New Pet-Friendly Rules in Korea
Starting from March 1, 2026, many restaurants, cafes, and bakeries in Korea have opened their doors to dogs and cats!
However, keep in mind that not every place is automatically pet-friendly. Business owners can choose to allow pets, provided they strictly follow new hygiene and safety standards. So, always check if a place is “pet-friendly” before heading out with your furry friend!
📋 How to Visit Pet-Friendly Places in Korea
1. Check Before You Go
- Look for the Sign: Always check for a “Pet-Friendly” sign (반려동물 동반 출입 허용) at the entrance.
- Call Ahead: If you don’t see a sign or aren’t sure, it is safer to call the shop beforehand to confirm.
- Bring Vaccination Records: Some places may ask for proof of vaccination, so it’s a good idea to carry a vaccination record book or an app-based digital certificate.
2. Important Manners & Guidelines
- Keep Your Pet Controlled: Pets are not allowed in kitchen areas. Inside the store, please keep your pet on a leash, in a carrier, or using other control methods so they don’t wander freely.
- Maintain Hygiene: It is recommended to use lids for your food and ensure that pet-specific bowls and trash cans are used.
- Follow Shop Rules: Business owners have the right to restrict pets—especially for breeds that may pose safety concerns—so please respect and follow the store’s specific policies.
A Day in the Life of a Korean Dog Mom: Chaos & Love
Every morning at 7:00 AM, my chaotic yet beautiful routine begins. I pack up the essentials—water and some dog treats—and we all pile into the truck for a 20-minute drive to a quiet, peaceful countryside park. My pack is a unique all-female crew: three majestic Standard Poodle sisters and one tiny but fierce Toy Poodle who definitely rules the roost.
Even though we ride in a truck, with four girls, space is always tight, and the car ride is never without a little sisterly drama. My tiny Toy Poodle acts like the strict queen of the castle. With an incredibly sassy, high-pitched bark, she fiercely warns her three giant Standard Poodle sisters not to dare cross into the front. Watching this tiny girl hold her ground against her three big sisters always cracks me up and keeps me wide awake during the 20-minute drive.
Once we arrive at the park, the tension from the truck completely melts away. Interestingly, they don’t care much for the toys I bring. Instead, they prefer their own game—romping around, playfully tackling each other, and chasing one another’s tails. Watching the four sisters wrestle and run wild on the open grass is pure joy.
After about an hour of burning off their boundless energy, we head back home. With happy tails and tired paws, we return to our calm, daily routine. It’s a bit hectic, but watching my four beautiful girls so happy makes every single morning worth it.
There is just one tiny problem, though. Because of the morning dew, the ground is always wet, meaning I have to wash sixteen muddy paws as soon as we get home. Seriously, my back is breaking every single morning!
